Union of Jewish Students of France (Tunis Section)
The Union of Jewish Students of France (UEJF), Tunis branch, was a local extension of an organization founded in 1944 to advocate for Jewish student rights and combat antisemitism. In Tunisia, the branch played a significant role from the 1940s through the 1960s—a time marked by major political and social change, including decolonization, the rise of Tunisian nationalism, and transformations within the Jewish community.
The Tunisian UEJF branch served as a hub for gathering, intellectual exchange, and community engagement. It organized debates, lectures, Jewish culture classes, and promoted solidarity among students. In a context of shifting identities and uncertainties, it provided a vital space for dialogue and personal development, while strengthening ties with other UEJF branches in France and abroad.
It also contributed to interfaith and intercultural dialogue in Tunisia, promoting values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence. Today, this historical chapter reflects the commitment of Tunisian Jewish youth to intellectual life, social responsibility, and a deep connection to memory and education.
