Quartier général des SS (1942-1943)

SS Headquarters (1942–1943)

Between November 1942 and May 1943, during the German occupation of Tunisia, the SS established a headquarters in Tunis within a requisitioned civilian building. This site became a key center for Nazi military and security operations in North Africa.

It served as a command post, interrogation facility, and at times, a detention site. Numerous Tunisian resistance members, Jews, political dissidents, and civilians were arrested, questioned, and in some cases tortured there. It represents how Nazi violence and ideology extended beyond Europe, even during a short occupation.

Although the occupation lasted only a few months, this SS headquarters remains a symbol of Nazi repression in Tunisia and a reminder of the suffering endured by minorities and dissidents. Its history is still little known to the public but is gradually being explored through memorial and academic efforts.
