Cimetière américain d'Afrique du Nord

North Africa American Cemetery

Inaugurated in 1960, the North Africa American Cemetery in Carthage honors American soldiers who gave their lives during World War II, particularly during the North African Campaign. The cemetery is the final resting place for 2,841 American servicemen who fell in Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. Rows of white marble crosses and Stars of David mark the graves, reflecting the diverse backgrounds of the fallen. A central memorial chapel, adorned with mosaics and inscriptions, commemorates their bravery, and features a large map illustrating military operations in the region. The serene, landscaped grounds with views of the Mediterranean provide a solemn and peaceful setting for remembrance, symbolizing the enduring friendship between the U.S. and Tunisia.
