Jean Fontaine
Jean Fontaine is a White Father, a distinguished scholar, and a key figure in the study of contemporary Arabic literature, particularly Tunisian. His intellectual journey is defined by scholarly rigor and a genuine passion for Arabic letters. Through his numerous publications, he has provided a critical and in-depth perspective on Tunisian literary works, helping them gain recognition on the international academic stage.
From 1968 to 1977, he served as the librarian of the Institute for Arabic Letters (IBLA) in Tunis. He then became the director of the IBLA journal, a position he held from 1977 to 1999. Under his leadership, the journal became a vital intellectual hub for scholars in literature, sociology, anthropology, and Islamic studies.
