Claudia Cardinale, a Star Born in Tunis

Claudia Cardinale, born Claude Joséphine Rose Cardinale on April 15, 1938, came into the world in downtown Tunis. Of Italian descent, her family settled in La Goulette after their home was destroyed during the 1942 bombings. She studied in Carthage and at Lycée Paul Cambon before earning a teaching diploma. Her destiny changed in 1957 when she was crowned the most beautiful Italian in Tunisia, launching her into the world of cinema. An international icon, she has always kept a strong bond with Tunisia, as shown in her book Ma Tunisie and her return in 2022 to inaugurate a street in her name in La Goulette.
