Saint Augustine and Saint Fidelis Church: Faith and Community Life in La Goulette
Built on land granted by the Bey of Tunis to Archbishop Sutter following Joseph Raffo’s intervention, the Saint Augustine and Saint Fidelis Church laid its foundation stone in 1848, though completion came only in 1879. From 1901 onward, under the guidance of Father Saliba, it became a vibrant center of social and cultural activity. He founded the Jeanne d’Arc sports club and launched the annual Madonna of Trapani procession—patron saint of fishermen—which brought together residents of all faiths. Since 2007, the church has undergone extensive restoration work.
