Raphaël Guy, Architect of Neo-Moorish Modernity

Raphaël Guy was a French architect born in Rennes in 1869. After studying in Paris, he moved to Tunisia in 1900 to join the Public Works Department. He held several key positions, including Chief Architect of Civil Buildings in Tunisia until 1911. Over 18 years, he left a lasting mark on the urban landscape with a bold neo-Moorish style that blended modernity and local heritage. His major works include the Ministry of Finance in the Kasbah, Alaoui and Sadiki high schools, and the Sfax municipality.
