Grand Rabbi of Tunisia and Rabbinical Council

The Chief Rabbi of Tunisia is the highest Jewish religious authority in the country. As head of the Rabbinical Council, he symbolizes the spiritual continuity and unity of the Tunisian Jewish community. This position dates back centuries and has always played a key role in guiding religious life, resolving community issues, and preserving the distinct Sephardic Jewish traditions of Tunisia.

The Rabbinical Council, made up of rabbis from various regions of the country (notably Tunis, Djerba, Sfax…), assists the Chief Rabbi in interpreting Jewish law (Halakha), overseeing rituals (such as circumcision, marriage, divorce, and conversion), managing the religious calendar, and supervising educational and religious institutions.

The Chief Rabbi also represents the community in national and international affairs and acts as a mediator in internal disputes. Despite its smaller size today, the Jewish community in Tunisia remains deeply connected to its values, faith, and history. The Chief Rabbi remains a moral and spiritual pillar, ensuring the transmission of religious identity across generations.
